Dal with Garlic & Onion

  • 4 tbs veg oil 
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 cup lentils 
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tsp salt 
  • 1/8 - 1/4 tsp cayenne

  1. Heat oil in heavy pot over medium flame
  2. When hot, add cumin seeds and garlic. Stir and fry until the garlic pieces turn a medium brown color. 
  3. Now add onion, stir and fry until onion pieces begin to turn brown at the edges. 
  4. Add lentils and water, bring to a boil. Cover, turn heat to low, and simmer for about an hour or until lentils are tender. 
  5. Add salt and cayenne, stir to mix and simmer for another 5 minutes.

Dal served with egg curry and aloo
