lemon rice

  • cooked basmati rice
  • udad/urad dal
  • chana dal
  • lemon
  • turmeric
  • rai (mustard seeds)
  • hing (asafetida)
  • curry patta (leaves)
  • (thai) green chili or dry red chili
  • coconut oil


  1. heat oil on medium-high
  2. add rai
  3. when it starts popping, add dals until they are slightly brown
  4. add hing, tumeric, and chili
  5. add curry leaves last (will sputter again)
  6. add rice and mix until evenly yellow
  7. add lemon last


my mom's recipe. this is nice to make with leftover rice since it should already be cooked.
